During the months of November to January, when the weather in Western Australia is exceptionally hot, we handpick sandalwood seeds from our organic sandalwood plantation. After gathering the seeds, we remove the upper layer, known as the husk, and the hard covering, known as the shell, and then process them to separate the nuts, or kernel, from the seeds.
Furthermore, the edible kernel of Australian sandalwood nuts contains an abundance of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, as well as a high protein content. Furthermore, these nuts contain essential oils equivalent to those found in almonds, Brazil nuts, cashews, hazelnuts, macadamia nuts, walnuts, and pistachio nuts.
These nuts are also rich in essential oils. Nuts have a similar feel to macadamia nuts but are less tasty and contain less oil. Nuts made from Australian Sandalwood are a great source of dietary fibre, omega-3, omega-6, and omega-9 fatty acids, all of which are essential for a healthy lifestyle. The heartwood of this shrub has numerous therapeutic benefits. These applications include the manufacture of cosmetics, oils, and perfumes, as well as therapeutic medications.

The family owns and runs Sandalwood and Native Plant Forestry. Our own sandalwood plantation has been around for a long time in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. We have the skills to run the sandalwood plantation, and we are also building a new small business that will be centred on the products that come from the footwear plantation.

We have done surveys and study in the Wheatbelt area of Western Australia, and we have seen native Australian Sandalwood growing there. Sandy loam over clay makes up the land, which is a duplex soil type. This region is the perfect place to grow sandalwood.
About 350 mm of rain falls each year, which is enough for the host plants, Acacia and Australian Sandalwood, to grow. Sandalwood, for instance, is a root hemiparasite. This means that it uses special intrusive organs called haustoria to get water and nutrients from its host, which is a type of Acacia.
We have had Acacia acuminata (narrow phyllode), Acacia lasiocalyx, Acacia assimilis, and Australian Sandalwood (Santalum spicatum) on our property and in our well-kept plantation since 2016.
